DAY 3
|
After breakfast we start our three day classical tour. We drive
to Corinth.
We slowly tour the Roman Forum, Theater, Temple of Apollo, the
ancient Angora
(market place), the medieval castle with its sweeping view of
the sea and the
narrow Isthmus of Corinth. We continue to Epidaurus. This
is the best preserved
open air ancient Greek theater. It is a marvel to Greek
engineering. Wherever you
stand you can hear the slightest sound on the stage. Next we
proceed to and
tour Mycenae, known in history as the legendary home of King
Agamemnon
who led the Greeks in the Trojan War. We tour the Atreus,
in reality a tomb. T
his is an architectural masterpiece. Later we drive
through Central Peloponese
to Olympia and check into the hotel.

DAY 4 After breakfast we visit Olympia, one of the
best-preserved sites in Greece and
home of the Olympic Games. After a full day of leisurely
touring the site we drive through
the plains of Greece cross the Corinth Bay and drive to Delphi.
We check into the hotel.
The evening is free to stroll the picturesque town.

DAY 5 Today we tour one of the greatest
sites from ancient antiquity, Delphi.
This was the home of the famed oracle. We tour the Agora
(market place), the Treasury
of the Athenians, the Temple of Apollo, and the Roman
Theater. After our leisurely tour,
stroll the sites at your leisure. When you are ready we
return to the hotel. The evening

DAY 6 We drive to and leisurely tour the
Meteora Monasteries, a must see, atop their
soaring pinnacles. Priceless treasures of art are on
display. Today the monasteries
are best known for the James Bond Movie "Never Say
Never".We check into the Meteora
hotel. The evening is free. B&B

DAY 7 We drive to Pella,
the capital of Macedonia under Phillip II, father of
Alexander
the Great. We arrive in Pella and check into
the hotel. The evening is free. B&B

DAY 8 Today we slowly tour
Pella We visit the museum that contains
many artifacts
from the reign of Phillip II, and Alexander
the Great, the royal graves and the palace
of the Macedonian Kings. After our
leisurely tour we return to the hotel. The
evening
is free to stroll through the picturesque
town. B&B |

DAY 9 We return to
Athens. This afternoon there is an optional tour
of Cape Sounion
and the Temple of
Poseidon. This is the legendary spot
where the King. father of
Thesius,
founder of Athens, threw himself off the
cliff, into the sea when he thought, his
son,Thesius
had been killed by the legendary Minathor
of Crete. The evening is free. You might go to
one of the famous shopping streets in
Athens for some last minute shopping.
Whether it is for inexpensive souvenirs or
something more expensive, you will find it here.
Many stores will remind you of London,
Paris, or New York. As it is the capital of
Greece,
you can find anything in Athens. The
main shopping street is Ermou Street. It
is for
pedestrian traffic only and has numerous
shops. In the Plaka you will find
souvenirs from all over Greece and the
largest department store in the country. In
Monastiraki there
are many antiquity shops. The best jewelry
shops are found on Voukourestiou
Street, but they are expensive. The
Plaka has some inexpensive jewelry, but it is
not of the quality found on Voukourestiou
Street. Hand woven carpets are to be found
at the 9 Mitropoleos Street Showroom of the
Greek Handcraft Organization.
